More preview than review
It’s a new year.
November/December was kind of slow for personal work to put up here, I’ve been trying to be a better painter – light, distance, perspective – all things I need to work on. All things resulting in half-made messes that covered good intentions and bad compositions. But (thankfully there’s a but for November/December) I have had a really really cool freelance map job last month, which I’m not sure I can post just yet, sometimes the companies are pretty secretive about the art they request. But I’ll give this hint, ps3 game
woot. My first work for a ps3 game! mostly all other video game stuff I do as a 2D artist is for the wii, which is a pretty weak system. How I yearn, hunger, desire, crave, blah thesaurus words, to work on a game with real imagination and world crafting…one day. Actually after seeing the movie Avatar I now just want to pack my bags and take the 300 hour trip to New Zealand and work my way up from coffee boy at Weta. Or maybe it’s better to just keep practicing and one day have them call me (even for coffee boy position). Also , I did another job for Darksword – which I’m posting below – I had to create viking patterns for sheath belts and it went pretty ok. Celtic/viking patterns were new to me and tricky, it’s not my best work for them, err first time with patterns like that.

Besides the freelance I’m doing a painting for this book full of Montreal based artists, of course I’ll post it when it’s done. So far so good, again I’m working hard on light, distance, perspective and to my own fault, a crapload of trees and bushes so it’s out of my comfort zone, which is suppose to be a good thing. Till then I have some random Daedonas beast sketches I did when I tired of the wacom, nothing big, nothing exceptional but it’s never not fun to draw a few beasties.
